Borobudur Illuminated by Orange, Support the Global Campaign to End Violence against Women

In cooperation between PT Taman Wisata Borobudur Temple, Prambanan and Ratu Boko (TWC), Borobudur Conservation Center and United Nations (UN) Women, on December 9th, 2017 Borobudur temple are illuminated by orange to support End violence against women. The participation of Borobudur Temple is a form of support to the global initiative “Orange the World” as part of the UN Secretary General’s global campaign in 16 Days of Anti Violence against Women. For 16 days, iconic buildings in various parts of the world are lit by orange lights to show their support. The orange color itself is an optimistic color, a symbol of a bright future for women and girls, free from violence.

“UN Women gives appreciation to the Management of Borobudur Temple for supporting the campaign, in 2016 and 2017. We believe that everyone is entitled to live free from violence and the threat of violence. For that, we need to work together to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls wherever they are. UN Women calls for all communities to join the campaign, “said Lily Puspasari, Program Specialist of UN Women Indonesia.

The 16 Day Anti-Violence against Women is a campaign that takes place every November 25 (Anti-Violence Day) to December 10 (Human Rights Day). The campaign aims to increase public attention and a form of solidarity for victims of gender-based violence. This year, the 16 Day Anti-Violence against Women campaign theme “Leave No One Behind”, emphasizes the commitment of this campaign to a world free from violence against women and girls around the world, including reaching marginalized.
