The 9th Jogja International Heritage Walk

The 9th Jogja International Heritage Walk lasts for two days, 18-19 November 2017. It was walked through various cultural places in Yogyakarta. The opening of the ninth Jogja International Heritage Walk was conducted in Yogyakarta on Nov. 18. This was an event that combined walking and cultural activities. Jogja International Heritage Walk is an annual event which participants can choose the distance of the specified route, which is 5 km, 10 km, and 20 km. A total of 7,500 people, 285 of them were overseas tourists took part in the main event that was held on Nov. 19.

The event starts and ends at Brahma Square, Prambanan Temple. It’s approximately six hours walk, participants will explore the countryside in Kalasan, Sleman through several temples like Kedulan temple, Sambisari temple, and Sari temple. The next day, Sunday 19 November 2017, participants went back through the countryside in Imogiri, Bantul through several objects such as Siluk Bridge in Karang tengah Hamlet, Kedungmiri, Sriharjo and Oya Bridge.

Participants were released by Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan HB X with the Japanese ambassador to Indonesia. On that occasion, the Sultan said “This is the ninth event. It becomes a part of our effort to develop tourism, with this event they come. This event is also to commemorate 50 years of cooperation between Indonesia and Japan. ”
This JIHW walking event is not only meant to promote a healthy lifestyle, but also to improve communication and interaction between communities of different religions, nationalities, languages and cultural backgrounds. There are hundreds of participants from around 45 countries, such as the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Austria, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Russia, China, Taiwan, USA, Canada, and others.
